Pharmacy

The pharmacy call, made for you

The pharmacy call is short, boring, and somehow always at the wrong time. The app says 'in progress' for two days. The doctor was supposed to send it over and nobody can tell you whether they did.

It is also the call where the phone tree is worst: press 1 for refills, press 2 for the pharmacist, hold for eleven minutes while a recording explains flu shots.

We sit through the phone tree. You get one line back: ready, not ready, or here is what is missing.

For example
Three trips to the same counter

The app said in progress on Monday, in progress on Tuesday, and in progress on Wednesday. He drove over twice. The third time, the pharmacist explained it had been waiting on the doctor's office the entire week — a fact one phone call would have produced on Monday.

What we call about

  • Checking whether a prescription is ready for pickup
  • Asking for a refill when the app won't let you
  • Finding out whether the doctor's office actually sent it over
  • Transferring a prescription to a different pharmacy
  • Asking whether a medication is in stock before you drive there

What a call actually sounds like

An excerpt from a call this system placed over the phone network, exactly as it came back — including the part where it says what it is. It was dialled to our own number with a placeholder business name, which is worth saying plainly.

Questions people ask

What if my English isn't good?

That is who this is built for. You write or speak your request in your own language — English, Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean or Russian. The call itself is placed in English, and the transcript and result come back to you in your language.

Can it pick up the prescription too?

No — this is a phone agent, not an errand service. It finds out whether the prescription is ready, what is blocking it, and how long they will hold it, so the trip you make is not a wasted one.

Will it give the pharmacy my date of birth?

Only the identifying details you provided when you set up the task, and only when the pharmacy asks in order to look up your record. It will not read out card numbers or insurance member IDs under any circumstances.

Does the person on the other end know it's an AI?

Yes. Every call opens by saying it is an AI assistant calling on your behalf. That sentence is written into the code, not left to the model to decide, so it cannot be skipped.

What happens if nobody picks up?

One task is not one call. Voicemail, a phone tree, or a 'call back after five' all get logged and the task stays open, so you can send it again without retyping anything.
